Charity Evening with Belinda Carlisle at The High Field, Edgbaston: Saturday 15th July 2017.


It was 1987 when Belinda’s Carlisle’s album ‘Heaven on Earth’ came out, proceeded by the number one single ‘Heaven is a place on Earth’ which catapulted her into stardom in the U.K and heralded a clutch of successful singles and two majorly successful albums. The follow up ‘Runaway Horses’ even included an icon of mine in George Harrison. If you remember ‘Circle in the Sand,’ Leave a Light on’and ‘Summer Rain’ and one of my favourites ‘World Without You’ like I do then this may be for you? 

On Saturday 15th July 2017, The High Field will be hosting a very special evening in aid of charity when Belinda Carlisle one of the biggest selling female global artists of all time, makes a one-off appearance at the Edgbaston venue.

This exclusive event, which is limited to just 250 guests, will feature a short acoustic set of songs from Belinda as well as drinks and dinner in a glorious garden setting.

Tickets for this special event are now on sale and include fizz and canapés on arrival, followed by a three course Vegetarian or Vegan dinner with a menu created for the night by The High Field’s head chef Ian Meek.

After enjoying good food and drink in the stylish surroundings of The High Field, which was named the Best Gastro Pub in Birmingham at the inaugural Birmingham Food Drink & Hospitality Awards, guests will enjoy a short acoustic performance of Belinda’s songs. There will also be a silent auction with some brilliant prizes to be won, special guests and even the opportunity to win breakfast with Belinda herself at a secret location the next morning.

All the proceeds from ticket sales will be given to the two charities close to Belinda’s heart to support the vital work they undertake. 

Animal People Alliance’s mission is to offer high quality care to street animals in need, alongside robust employment opportunities to survivors of human rights abuses and other vulnerable populations in South Asia. 

 

Her Future UK provides shelter, education and high-wage employment to survivors of human trafficking and extreme abuse so that they may remain forever free; since 2005, the charity has helped thousands of women and children to build a bright and independent future.

Launching the evening, Sarah Robinson, General Manager of The High Field, says, “This is a fantastic opportunity to support these two amazing charities whilst enjoying good food and drink in a unique venue. “We are thrilled to be joined by Belinda Carlisle and to have this unmissable opportunity to listen to her music in such an intimate setting,” says Sarah. “As lead singer of the Go-Go’s, the most successful female band of all time, and one of the world’s biggest selling female artists, she is a true pop icon, and we are honoured that she will be performing here in support of these two great charities.

Belinda Carlisle, says, “Animal People Alliance is a charity, based in Kolkata India, I co-founded with Paul Suit in 2014. Whilst still in the early days, we are starting to have a real impact, with our mission to provide quality care for India’s street animals, employment for survivors of human rights abuses and other vulnerable populations. We want to change the future generation’s consciousness towards animals, and raise awareness of the need to treat animals humanely.

“I’ve always dreamed of having an animal sanctuary and I have such a love of India. I had an idea on how great it would be to combine both with the invaluable help of Her Future, of which I’ve seen first-hand the work they do, and I’m humbled even to be in the same room as Sarah Symons (the co-founder of Her Future Coalition and inspiration of Her Future UK), as she does the work of angels.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be part of the charity evening at The High Field, and grateful to all the generous people and businesses who are making this event happen. I will be performing a short acoustic set of my hits as music is still a big part of my life, as is Animal People Alliance,” she says.

The Brum Brewing Company’s Tap Room is open for the first time on Friday 2nd June 4-8pm and Saturday 3rd 12-5pm. All Brum Brewing Co’s beers are unfined and Vegan Friendly. 

Based in Stirchley, Brum Brewing Co is Birmingham’s newest Real Ale and craft beer brewery. 

The tap room will have Bitter Brummie on cask and Pale Brummie on cask and keg for starters. 

Wine and soft drinks will also be served.

BIRMINGHAM’S ALL-VEGAN STREET FOOD EVENT IN KINGS HEATH THIS SUNDAY                                 

 This Sunday, 21st May 2017, Birmingham serves up an all-vegan street food market at Kings Heath Village Square.

Kings Heath Vegan Market, the only 100% vegan street food event in the region, will feature dishes freshly cooked by leading street food chefs, showcasing entirely vegan menus from around the world.

Kings Heath BID and Kitchen Garden Cafe are collaborating with leading Midlands street food company, The Vegan Grindhouse to host the event on Sunday 21st May, from 12-5pm, Kings Heath Village Square, All Saints Centre, 2 Vicarage Road, Birmingham B14 7RA.

 The street food lineup includes The Vegan Grindhouse with vegan handmade burgers and jumbo hotdogs; Mex It Up; Bare Bones Pizza, plus Caribbean, pie & mash and raw vegan desserts.

As well as all the street food, local all-vegan brewery Twisted Barrel Ales are bringing the vegan beers, and there will be stall with organic fruit and vegetables from Vegetropolis, animal-friendly clothing and cosmetics, a fermented drinks bar from The Happy Gut Hut, and a range of vegan and gluten-free cakes and desserts.

The event is supporting Grace’s Rest, a not-for-profit organisation that rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes animals in crisis.

 Lisa Burbidge-Brown, Co-Owner of The Vegan Grindhouse and prominent vegan blogger said,

Monthly Kings Heath Street Food market returns on Saturday 8th April. 



The Kings Heath Street Food Market officially launches on April 8th, in Kings Heath Village Square and will have a host of beauties for Veggies and Vegan foodies. 

The Kings Heath Street Food market is officially sponsored by Birmingham Brewing Company. A brand new micro Brewery located in Stirchley, all beers are Vegan friendly. 

They will provide a fully stocked and licensed bar at the street food market. 

The Brewery recently launched their Pale Brummie and Bitter Brummie Ales both on offer on the day. 


Food will come from Veggie Foodie favourites Buddha Belly, with their delicious Vegan friendly Thai Yellow Curry and Jasmine Rice, plus Lightly spiced vegetable noodles, and Baked in Brick which serves pizza and flat breads from a converted mini. They were Named Best of the best at the recent British Street Food Awards. 

Dishes from Baked in Brick include: Veggie friendly Margherita pizza, cheesy garlic bread and goats cheese pizza, but no Vegan option it appears. 

Buddha Belly deservedly won the people’s choice award at the British Street Food awards.

The Middle Feast will have a veggie burnt aubergine and halloumi kebab and Vegan friendly burnt aubergine kibbeh.

Vegetarian dinner at Cheval Blanc, Moseley. April 12th. 


Cheval Blanc is becoming the go to place for wine, cocktails and food in Birmingham. Residing in Moseley it sits next to The Dark Horse, colourful from the outside and inviting. Owned by the same team as The Prince of Wales, The Dark Horse and The Royal Oak in Stirchley, Ruth and I have visited for drinks but not eaten there as yet (must do soon) and can thoroughly recommend it for its impressive wine list and winning cocktails. 

There are regular events on Wednesday and Thursday evenings including exclusive dinners and master classes. 

On April 12th, sees a Vegetarian evening of food. 

Try a five course meat free menu to prove that veggie food isn’t all about risottos and Nut roasts. 

Chef Cydric Has created a menu that captures the season and is as enticing sounding as you could find anywhere on a midweek evening.

You can never have too much Street Food in my opinion so the news that another weekly Street Food event is hitting Birmingham is exciting news for those seeking a relaxed and informal Friday evening. 

The team behind Taste and Liquor and 21 Milk Street is launching a new venue called No21 Digbeth. The venue is located on Milk Street and is described as “a new hub for global street food, cultural festivals and diverse community events.”

Launching on 27th January the opening launch will showcase a weekly Indoor Street Food hub across Winter and Spring made up a range of international flavours paired with contemporary traders. 

Taste and Liquor wanted to provide an offering that is as unique as the city itself. It won’t just be meat heavy too with Vegetarian and Vegan options.

Boxfood will be doing Vegan Caribbean food and it’s their 1st Birmingham showcase.

Plus the Indian Butcher will have Paneer dishes  and Pizza Di Bruno will have veggie pizzas..

The Turk will also have a vegetarian option. 


The Friday event also shows support to new and emerging talent by giving new traders the chance to experiment and play with ideas without the pressure of having to take on a restaurant. Taste and Liquor aims to support new chefs throughout the year. 

Taste and Liquor’s Friday event will be championing live music, emerging bands and DJ’s With an exclusive platform showcasing the regions hottest acts. Speakerbox, a showcase produced by Sharinta K Athwal will present  the best of the regions raw talent and hottest emerging stars of 2017.

Every Friday welcomes The Digbeth After Work Club between 5-7pm where local residents are invited to start the weekend early, with specials two-for-one offers on all drinks. Head towards the main bar, featuring bespoke cocktails, craft beer, wines and a vast range of bespoke tonics and spirits. 

Monthly themed events will also be held every last Saturday of the month. Highlights include Gin and Meat Festival (February), Besr of British Street Food (March), Brum’s Big Fat Pizza festival, (April), Mr Hyde’s national Burger day festival (August). 

Cultural celebrations and festivals will also include Holi Rave colour festival in April, Taste and Liquor 1st birthday party weekender in May, Asian indepen-dance a celebration of 70 years of Indian independence in August and Digbeth Mela in October.

Kick off the festive season in style at #Digmas, Birmingham’s favourite independent Christmas fair and family day out. The fun-filled event will return to the Custard Factory at the heart of Birmingham’s Creative Quarter on Saturday 26 November from 11am to 6pm. 

Entry is free. There’ll be something for everyone in the family; from street food, gin, craft beer and market stalls for the adults to Santa’s grotto, face painting and craft activities for the kids.

I’ve eaten at Rofuto and drunk some amazing Japanese whiskey in their bar. This though is something different. Rofuto Sweat begins on Sunday September 11th from 10.30-11.30.

A new weekly yoga workout with a view. It will include DJ’s and different brands as it progresses. 

Food and health and well been are so intrinsically linked that you can say you are what you eat and drink. 

As a vegetarian health issues have always been important to me and yoga is a beautiful way to become more fit and supple. In time though the gentle harmony of yoga practice can link ones fitness with their approach to life and how they see the world. An inner peace, the essence of yoga, evolving.

  
So now you can escape the city and join Yoga Sweat every Sunday at Rofuto Bar for weekly rooftop yoga at 141ft in the sky, with breathtaking 360 degree views of Birmingham.

Rofuto the newly opened modern Japanese restaurant and bar has collaborated with Yoga Sweat to offer ‘Yoga with a View’ classes every Sunday at 10.30am for £15 per person. The classes will be held in the bar area, an oasis of calm with panoramic views of the city. 

The hour long classes include a freshly squeezed Rofuto Super Juice and will be led by Yoga Sweat’s founder Andrea Hassett. The yoga sessions will work up to a flow, challenge yogis of all abilities and allow guests to work at their own pace, build strength, flexibility and leave you feeling refreshed and re-energized. The visual aspect of rooftop yoga ensures people feel more uplifted, and encourages a positive, open yoga practice.

 Rofuto offers an izakaya-style restaurant, serving a high quality modern Japanese menu of world class dishes and sits alongside the stunning cocktail lounge and sake bar in its unique rooftop position at the new Park Regis Hotel.

Founded by Andrea Hassett in 2014, Yoga Sweat’s mission is to bring a new, unique yoga offering to the people of Birmingham. Andrea has practiced yoga for over 14 years and instructed for seven. She honed her craft travelling the world gathering insights and techniques from some of the finest teachers working across the USA and Europe.

Access to the classes is via an Express Lift at the Rofuto entrance on Five Ways

All Sessions cost £10 for non members and £5 for Yoga Sweat members for a one hour session from 10.30-11.30am.

On the evening Traditional home cooked dishes using exotic Sri Lankan vegetables and spices and organic rice will provide a feast for the senses and the palate.

There will be a three course meal for £25 including tasters of Two Towers Brewery vegan friendly Ale.

Love Gin? Get to Gin Fields at The High Field Edgbaston, Saturday 13th August. 


 

Could gin be the drink of connoisseurs? On the rocks, with a slosh of tonic or as part of a perfect martini, gin is the ideal Sunner drink. That clear liquor, the backbone of these irreplaceable drinks and others in between. 

Well, 

The High Field in Edgbaston is staging a fabulous festival for the grown-ups that’s all about celebrating the great drink that is gin.

So if you do love a refreshing gin cocktail or classic gin and tonic and want  to learn a bit more about this great English tipple in the glorious surroundings of a gorgeous city gastropub garden? Then get to The High Field in Edgbaston on Saturday 13th August for Gin Fields.

 Gin Fields is a fabulous festival for the grown-ups that’s all about celebrating the great drink that is gin. The entire afternoon and evening will be dedicated to it, and there’ll be oodles of ways to try Mother’s Ruin as well as discovering things you never knew about gin.

 Sidle up to the big outside bar and take a peak at the fantastic selection of premium gins on offer. There’ll be favourites from the High Field’s list like Brockmans, Hendrick’s and Whitley Neill as well as a few special guest appearances from some rare and unusual gins. Look out for Salcombe Gin, a smooth and delicious gin handcrafted in Devon using 13 different botanicals, the finest English wheat spirit and pure Dartmoor water and Brilliant Gin, a delicately flavoured artisan small batch spirit, alongside William Chase GB and Big Boss Gin.

Expert gin makers from some of these top distillers will also be on hand to share their love of gin and chat to you about its heritage, character and flavour, and then it will be down to the serious business of tasting. 

Sip on a refreshing gin and elderflower slush puppy or a fruity gin bramble or shake things up with a sensational gin and pink grapefruit. Cool down with a Jude’s G&T ice cream and lollies from Birmingham newcomers Creamed Pops. There will also be the ultimate G&T as well as cocktails galore. Listen to sounds from the DJ who will be spinning the decks all afternoon and pick something tasty from the BBQ to go with your gin.

 “We’ve all got a soft spot for gin here at The High Field and our grand gins always slip down a treat,” says The High Field’s general manager, Sarah Robinson. “But this time we’re making it really special by turning our whole garden into a celebration of the drink. Whether you fancy a drink that’s long or short, refreshing or sweet, gin is just great and we look forward to mixing you the perfect one at Gin Fields,” she says.

Tickets for Gin Fields at The High Field cost £10 and are only available on the door on the day, Saturday 13th August, from 2pm. Entry fee includes a G&T on arrival, gin tasters and a keepsake Grand Gin glass for mixing the perfect gin at home. Gin Fields ends at 6pm and will be held indoors in the event of rain.

Driving after Gin Fields is definitely NOT an option so it you fancy making a night of it, why not book one of the comfy rooms at The High Field Town House right next door?
